Some rugs are made to be sold.
Turkish rugs are made to be inherited.

Each one is hand-knotted with the Gördes double-knot — every strand locked around two threads, not one — giving Turkish rugs the density, resilience and longevity that have made them the most coveted rugs in the world for centuries.

For centuries, the finest rugs in the world have come from Turkey. Mille Knots brings them to you the way they were meant to be chosen — each one handmade, double-knotted, and sourced directly from the artisans who tie every strand by hand.

No cart. No shelf. No compromise. Each piece is selected by hand, its craftsmanship documented and its character understood. You receive not just a rug, but the right one.

Why Turkish rugs are different

Built by hand. Made to outlast generations.

Turkish rugs are regarded among the highest-quality and longest-lasting rugs in the world — and the reason is in the knot. Each rug is woven entirely by hand using the Turkish double-knot, or Ghiordes knot, which loops the wool around two warp threads instead of one. Every strand is locked twice. The result is a denser, stronger, more resilient pile — markedly stronger and more durable than ordinary single-knotted or machine-made rugs — that holds its colour and structure through decades of use. A rug built to be inherited, not replaced.

Handmade by Artisans

Knotted entirely by hand using traditional methods. Never machine-made.

The Double-Knot (Ghiordes)

Wool tied around two warps locks each strand twice — for unmatched density and strength.

Made to Last Generations

Denser, more durable construction means heirloom longevity, not disposable décor.

Sourced Direct

Straight from artisan workshops in Turkey — authentic provenance, never a middleman's markup.

Naturally Dyed

Coloured with madder, indigo and other plant dyes — no harsh chemicals, and easy to care for with simple natural soap.

Why a Turkish rug outlives an ordinary one

The difference is in the knot.

An ordinary rug
  • Often machine-made or single-knotted
  • Yarn wrapped around a single warp thread
  • Pile loosens, sheds and crushes underfoot
  • Pattern blurs and colour dulls over time
  • A lifespan measured in years
A Turkish double-knot rug
  • Hand-knotted, one strand at a time
  • Wool locked around two warps — the Gördes knot
  • A denser, springier pile that resists crushing and shedding
  • Pattern stays crisp; natural dyes stay rich for decades
  • A lifespan measured in generations
Made by people, not factories

Every rug supports
the artisans who made it

Our weavers are not anonymous labour. They work directly with us, knotting each rug by hand, and they share in the proceeds of every piece they create. When you bring one home, you sustain a craftsperson's livelihood, support their family, and help keep a centuries-old tradition alive for the next generation. A Mille Knots rug is made by someone — and gives back to them in return.

Craftsmanship

From loom
to floor.

The finest hand-knotted rugs take months — sometimes years — to complete. A master weaver may tie as many as 900 knots per square inch, working in yarn so fine each strand must be threaded by feel rather than sight.

We work only with the workshops behind that level of craft — and we choose every piece ourselves.

How It Works

A guided, personal process — not a checkout.

Finding the right hand-knotted rug should be considered, not rushed. Here is how we work with you from first enquiry to final selection.

  1. 01

    Submit Your Request

Tell us what you're looking for — size, colours, style, budget, and your preferred time to talk. The more you share, the better we source.

  2. 02

    We Review Your Preferences

Our team studies your brief and your space, then shortlists the directions and weave styles most likely to suit you.

  3. 03

    We Source from Turkey

We work directly with our artisan workshops in Turkey to find the hand-knotted rugs available to match your brief, and gather photographs and details of each option.

  4. 04

    Schedule a Consultation

We connect by call or video to walk you through the available options together, answer your questions, and help you compare.

  5. 05

    Select Your Preferred Rug

Choose the one that belongs in your home — there and then, or at your leisure. No pressure, no obligation.

Not a showroom. A sourcing service.

Most retailers sell you whatever is in stock. We begin with you — your space, your colours, your budget — then source authentic, double-knotted Turkish rugs directly from the workshops to match. No inventory pressure, no markups on someone else's selection. Just the right rug, hand-picked for you.
