Mille Knots began, as the best things often do, with a journey — and a moment of quiet astonishment. Traveling through Turkey, we encountered a handmade rug unrolled across a sunlit floor: its colours deep and alive, its pattern carrying the unmistakable warmth of the human hand. It was unlike anything mass production could imitate. We wanted to know who had made it, and how.
That curiosity led us off the main roads and into the places where these rugs are truly born — small, family-run workshops where weaving is not a business but an inheritance. We sat with artisans who had learned their craft from their parents, who had learned it from theirs. We watched wool dyed with roots and blossoms, saw looms strung by hand, and understood that a single rug can hold months — sometimes years — of patient, deliberate work.

What moved us most was not only the beauty of the rugs, but the people behind them. Each knot — tied by hand, thousands upon thousands of times — was a small act of devotion to a craft kept alive, largely unchanged, for centuries.
